Wedding Veils For Unconventional Brides
When it comes to weddings, the veil is a timeless accessory that adds an element of elegance that truly makes you feel like a bride. However, for unconventional brides who want to break away from tradition or add their personality to their bridal aesthetic, embroidered wedding veils are the perfect choice! At Natasha Nicole Studio we know that these veils not only showcase intricate artistry but also allow brides to express their unique style and personality. In this blog post, we’ll explore the charm of embroidered wedding veils and the joy of collaborating with a designer to create a one-of-a-kind piece.
Full of delicate stitching, intricate patterns, and often symbolic motifs, unconventional veils can tell a story, reflect cultural heritage, or simply add a burst of personality.
Here are some reasons why we think embroidered veils are a fantastic choice for unconventional brides:
Personalisation: Embroidery allows for endless customisation! Whether it’s incorporating your initials, a meaningful quote, flowers or symbols that speak to you, your veil can become a canvas for your love story. We can attest to the fact that fiancés and wedding guests alike absolutely adore being surprised with a veil full of personal symbols that reflect family and friends. It’s completely unexpected and makes a dramatic statement.
Artistry: The craftsmanship involved in creating an embroidered, hand painted or embellished veil is extraordinary! Each stitch or bead is a testament to the skill and dedication of the artisan, making the veil not just an accessory, but a work of art. It means that no one in the world will have the same bridal aesthetic as you, making your piece as authentic and unconventional as you are.
Versatility: From floral designs to celestial designs, and an array of colourful beading, embroidery can suit any wedding theme or bridal style. Whether you’re going for boho-chic, vintage glamour, or modern minimalism, there’s an embroidered veil that complements your vision.

Tips for Choosing your Unconventional Wedding Veil
Embrace Colour!
Opting for a colourful veil can make a bold statement and help you tie in your veil with your entire wedding theme. Consider veils in shades that complement your wedding décor, bouquet or your bridesmaids dresses. Pastel colours, rich jewel tones, or even a dip-dyed ombre effects can add a unique flair and make your bridal outfit feel more ‘you’. Consider creating a palette of four to eight colours and using these to ensure cohesion, or if colour isn’t your favourite, do the same with textures! Pleats, ruffles, waves and lace all add the same kind of dimension as colour and will naturally attract the eye.
2. Incorporate Unique Embroidery
Anything you can dream of, can be turned into embroidery! Whether embroidered by hand or through digitised drawings, you can literally tell your love story through symbols. Here we’ve showcased vintage style love hearts and birds, but these symbols can be anything that reflects your love and life. Maybe you would choose symbols that mark momentous occasions in your life such as where you met, where you went to school or somewhere special you’ve visited. Or maybe you’d consider outlines of flowers that represent birth flowers of your family or bridesmaids! The possibilities are endless and all combine to make an unconventional piece that no one else could have dreamed of.
3. Choose a Statement Length
Veils come in so many different lengths and there are so many ways to create an unconventional look or statement with length alone! Whilst dramatic Cathedral veils are an obvious choice for an embroidered statement train, they aren’t the only way to add drama to your bridal style. Shorter veils such as elbow or shoulder length can be made with two tiers to add more fullness and can be made with beautiful embroidery and symbolic edging. Scattered designs look wonderful on a floor length veil and work well with dresses that just graze the floor and are more minimal in style. Consider balancing a long veil with a short dress to create lots of length and drama - this works especially well with colourful embroidery or beading where the veil can take centre stage.

4. Opt for Unusual Fabrics or Textures
Traditional veils are made from plain tulle, but don't be afraid to explore other fabrics and styles! Silk or organza, can add a luxurious and unique texture to your veil making it stand out from others. Adding ruffled or pleated tulle creates a textured statement that can look both dramatic or minimal, depending on the size and amount of ruffle. A veil with lace appliques along with a lace border is a wonderful way to give a nod to traditional bridal whilst adding your own unique style and when you mix this with embroidered symbols, you can create a textured, one-of-a-kind piece.
5. Add Embellishments
Adding embellishments such as pearls, crystals, sequins, or even feathers can give your veil a distinctive aesthetic. As shown here, small colourful seed beads elevate this embroidered design to make it stand out and shimmer even more. Working with colour or texture to create a veil that incorporates a number of these embellishments can make for a dramatic, unique design.
6. Incorporate a Theme
If your wedding has a specific theme, reflect it in your veil! For instance, a celestial-themed wedding could be perfectly complemented with a matching veil featuring moons and stars. This adds a magical, otherworldly touch and can bring in elements from your décor or overall theme into your bridal look. Similarly, a garden wedding pairs well with floral embroidery, a colourful theme with sequins, glitter or beading or a vintage theme with lace or romantic minimal embroidery.
7. Consider Your Dress
Ensure your veil complements rather than competes with your wedding dress. If your dress is heavily embellished, a simpler veil with a minimal unconventional border or hidden embroidery might be more appropriate to your style. Conversely, if your dress is minimalistic, a more intricate veil can add the perfect finishing touch.
8. Think About Comfort
While style is important, so is comfort! Choose a veil that feels comfortable to wear throughout your wedding day. Make sure it's not too heavy and that it attaches securely without causing discomfort. Working with a veil designer will ensure that the best fabric and securing of the veil is chosen so that you can effortlessly move throughout your wedding day feeling comfortable and enjoying every moment.
For a bride looking for an unconventional veil to showcase their personality, the sky really is the limit!
There are so many different designs, types of embroidery, lace and embellishments that can be used to create something that feels perfectly you. Consider writing a list of your favourite and most meaningful things that would like to incorporate into your veil - this could be colours, symbols, flowers, star signs or types of lace or texture and work with a designer to make something special!
